About

Dance was not a chapter in life, but the very rhythm that wrote her story.

For Kalamandalam Bhagyalakshmi, her journey took definitive form at Kerala Kalamandalam, where she spent twelve transformative years immersed in classical dance, absorbing its depth, history, and philosophy with dedication, patience, and unwavering respect for tradition through every formative experience.

Rhythm, Abhinaya,
and the inner language
of Natya.

She completed her MA in Mohiniyattam with first rank, marking outstanding academic excellence. Her artistic growth led her to perform on numerous acclaimed stages, each performance reflecting years of dedicated practice, emotional depth, and unwavering respect for classical tradition across diverse platforms worldwide.

Teaching soon became an extension of her own learning.

Over the years, Bhagyalakshmi has trained more than one thousand students, guiding them patiently through the rigour and grace of classical dance. Under her mentorship, over ten batches of students have completed their Arangetrams, marking milestones of artistic maturity, confidence, and disciplined stage presence for future performance journeys ahead.

Nurturing young
talent across generations.

What began as a personal journey of discipline and passion slowly transformed into a lifelong mission of nurturing talent. As a respected judge across countless stages near and far, she became a silent force behind many rising performers. Alongside her husband, Kalamandalam Vijay, a revered mizhavu artist, she brought to life Darpana Kalakshetra in Mylapra, Pathanamthitta, a sanctuary where heritage is not simply taught, but lived, and where every step becomes a bridge between tradition and tomorrow.
